Levels

LINDY HOP

The levels of the classes are defined according to the total time that each participant has been dancing, and because of the ambiguity that this entails, and to help the choice of level, we have provided a brief description of each. Please read it and attempts to situate yourself at a certain level. We trust in your responsability to make the choice, as it will be profitable for all assistants.

Auditions: All participants to Lindy Pass (Xaloc, Garbí, Mestral and Llevant) will have a mandatory audition on Friday at 5:30 pm before starting the first class and teachers will evaluate all assistants. The purpose is to ensure the homogenization of the classes according to the level of the participants in the same group. The result of the Audition can make a participant raise or lower the level at which he had entered, always according to the criteria of the teachers.

XALOC (Intermediate Beginner): between 9 months and 1 year and a half.  You know the basics of Lindy Hop, you alternate structures of 6 and 8 counts fluently and you have integrated them in your social dance naturally. If you want to consolidate the basis of the Lindy Hop, and go a step further, this is your level.

GARBI (Intermediate Advanced): between 1 year and a half and 2 years and a half. You have assimilated the essence of Lindy Hop, and have basic knowledge of musicality, footwork and other technical aspects. You feel comfortable doing variations of Swing Out in different tempos, and steps like the Sugar Push and similar steps are no longer a mystery for you.

MESTRAL (Advanced)between 2 years and a half and 4 years. You dance often in social dancing, and you perform basic and advanced steps, supplemented with musicality, footwork etc … You play with the rhythm, syncopation and other elements that implicates more advanced musicality, and you are able to memorize easily steps structures and choreographies. You feel comfortable at any tempo, and you’re able to swing out and make other figures at fast tempos.

LLEVANT (Advanced +): between 4 and 5 years. You dance often in international workshops and festivals, and you participate at the advanced levels at the Jack & Jills. Your dance is very musical, and you are an expert playing with the rhythm, syncopation and other elements that implicates more advanced musicality. You are maybe teaching some beginner or intermediate levels in your local scene.

TRAMUNTANA (Invitational): More than 5 years. You are able to create your own structures of steps and choreographies, you are a teacher of intermediate and advanced levels in your city, and you are a well-known lindy hopper in your local scene and you influence newer dancers. You master the extreme tempos, both in slow and fast swing. If you want to sign up to this level, please note that you will be pushed to the max! There are two ways to access and register at this level:

1. If you have received the invitational mail: if you have received the invitation mail to the Tramuntana level by the organization, you could register directly in the Tramuntana Level (Invitational), and in the confirmation email you will already have your place in that level, without the need for auditions or other requirements.

2. If you have NOT received the invitational mail: if you have not received the invitation mail to the Tramuntana level by the organization, it is not possible to register directly at this level from the registration form, so it will be necessary to register to Llevant (Advanced +) level, and put the word Invitational in comments. In the confirmation email, you will be informed that on September 1st at 17:30, all the people registered at the Llevant level (Advanced +) who have previously requested to apply to the Tramuntana level (Invitational) will have an audition. The teachers will make a positive audition, deciding who goes up to that level. Non-chosen people in this audition will remain at the Llevant level (Advanced +).

FOLLOWERS TRACK

Followers Track classes will be all with the lovely Sharon Davis. This class is only for followers and those enrolling this class will work about followers technique and styling. There will not be leaders in the class and it’s an individual work.

INTERMEDIATE: between 1 and 2 years. You know the basics of Lindy Hop and you start playing with some variations at your steps. You also know the essentials of jazz steps, you know the basic steps and some classical choreography.

ADVANCED: more than 2 years. You dance frequently Lindy Hop, and you feel confortable using footwork and variation at your dance. You know the basics of jazz steps and some advanced steps as well, and you can play with them, introducing them at your social dancing.

SOLO JAZZ TRACK

Solo Jazz classes will be all with Ksenia Parkhatskaya.

INTERMEDIATE: between 1 and 2 years. You know the basics of jazz steps, and you are confident doing variations on this basic steps. You know the Shim Sham, the Tranky Doo and the Big Apple.

ADVANCED: more than 2 years.You know the basics of jazz steps and you also have a lot of experience of solo jazz dancing. Classes will be focused on advanced concepts and techniques for advanced dancers.
